The Community Outreach Team meets in February, May, August and November, but our activities are ongoing. In our concern for our neighbors, local and global, members of Holy Cross participate in many programs to aid those in need.
Through donations from the congregation, we maintain a Food Pantry and distribute “baskets” to needy families in our community four times a year, in addition to those who periodically request food through the church office.
We participate in Interfaith Hospitality Network, a county-wide program to house and feed families who are temporarily homeless, and we advocate for affordable, workforce housing through our participation in H.E.L.P. (Homelessness Ended through Local Partners) and Clergy and People for Workforce Housing.
We donate food and children’s Christmas gifts to the Hope Center and support Your Grandmother’s Cupboard through financial and used clothing donations and volunteers who work weekly shifts to sort, fold and assist “customers.”
Our Health Ministry members conduct two annual blood drives for the American Red Cross, provide health information in our church newsletter, and conduct classes in CPR, AED, and Defensive Driving.
To support international humanitarian programs of the church-at-large, we conduct annual appeals for funds to support the ELCA’s World Hunger Relief, Church World Services “Blankets +”, and other programs to aid those in need around the world.
We are preparing for our annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, held on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th from noon – 4:00 pm. If you would like to join us for dinner, or would like to volunteer, please call the church office at 732.255.4455.
